Tanla sits between businesses and mobile operators. Banks, e-commerce firms and others send one-time passwords, alerts and marketing messages through its platform, which routes them across SMS, WhatsApp, RCS and voice. It earns a thin spread of about 26% on that traffic. A much smaller software business, Digital Platforms, earns about 98% gross margin and supplies roughly a third of gross profit. Revenue has grown for six quarters in a row, but annual profit is no higher than in FY22.

Data freshness. Prepared 14 Oct 2026. Latest results are Q1 FY27, declared 22 Jul 2026 with no earnings call. Q2 FY27 is not yet declared. Q2 FY26 was reported on 17 Oct 2025, so mid to late October is likely, which is an inference. NSE and BSE filings and transcripts could not be read, and Quartr and Financial Modeling Prep need paid plans. Gaps are labelled and listed in Tab 14.
Analyst Notes
First-person view, dated 14 Oct 2026, built on the data tabs and their gaps.
What happened. Tanla has gone from a stalled year to a clear pick-up. Revenue grew 2.5% in FY25, 9.7% in FY26 and 17.8% in the June 2026 quarter. Gross profit grew 25% and EBITDA 22.7% in that quarter. Free cash flow was 154% of profit in Q4 FY26. The shares rose about 15% on the day after the Q1 results, then fell about 19% by mid-September.
What the market is pricing. At about ₹6,600 cr the stock trades near 12 times trailing earnings and about 7 times EBITDA. Cash and investments of ₹1,197 cr are about 18% of the market cap, so the multiple excluding cash is about 10. The dividend yield is about 2.4%. The stock was down about 56% over three years as of 23 July, and annual profit of ₹509 cr is below the ₹539 cr of FY22. The market is treating Tanla as a low-margin pass-through business that has not yet shown what Wisely can add. [Est.]
Why the margin story matters. Gross margin sits at 25 to 27%, and EBITDA margin has slid from 21.8% in FY22 to 16.4% in FY26. Enterprise Communications earns about 20% gross margin on pass-through revenue. Digital Platforms earns about 98%, so its ₹395 cr of FY26 revenue gives about ₹387 cr of gross profit. That is roughly a third of the total. The segment grew only 8.5% in FY26 and 12.2% in Q1 FY27. The older claim that it would grow at least 20% a year for three to four years has not been met. If Wisely scales, margin recovers. If not, Tanla is a cash-generative but ex-growth messaging utility.
What lifts my confidence.
Cash. Free cash flow was ₹477 cr in FY26, 94% of profit, and ₹126 cr in the June quarter. The company pays about ₹12 a share in dividends and has bought back stock in 2022 and 2025.
Proof point. Wisely.ai went live with Indosat in August 2025 on a software-as-a-service model priced by protected subscribers. Management cites 100 million users protected.
Peers. Route Mobile, with similar revenue of ₹1,151 cr, earns about 9.5% EBITDA margin against Tanla's 16.4%.
What worries me.
Transparency. The company stopped holding earnings calls after the Q4 FY26 call and gave no reason I could find. No transcript could be read for any quarter, so there is no analyst Q&A in this report.
Management churn. A new CFO in July 2025, two senior executives out in April 2026 and the CEO of the parent moved to run Karix from 1 May 2026.
Receivables. Debtor days rose from 74 to 82 in a year. Other receivables of about ₹527 cr are large and unexplained. Total receivables are about 34% of revenue.
Acquisition. ValueFirst Middle East, approved 28 July for ₹148.5 cr of enterprise value, has negative net worth of about ₹137 cr. Only about ₹12 cr is cash.
My view. The valuation is undemanding for a debt-free business converting almost all profit to cash. The doubt is whether growth can reach profit again. I would watch the Q2 gross margin, the Digital Platforms growth rate and whether management restores calls before concluding that this is a value opportunity rather than a value trap. [Analyst View]
Limits of this report. No filings or transcripts could be read. Figures come from aggregators and company releases. The FY22 to FY26 balance sheets are incomplete and borrowing figures conflict across sources.

How the business works
Enterprises such as banks send application-to-person messages: one-time passwords, alerts and promotions. Tanla aggregates this traffic and routes it over operator networks and channels including SMS, WhatsApp, RCS (Rich Communication Services, a richer SMS replacement), voice and over-the-top apps. It buys termination capacity from operators and sells to enterprises at a spread, giving gross margin of about 25 to 27%. [Fact]

What is moving [Analyst View]
Enterprise is the growth driver
Q1 FY27 growth of 18.4% on a large base.
New logos and wallet-share gains on WhatsApp and RCS.
Thin margin means growth adds little profit unless mix improves. Gross margin slipped 40 basis points from the previous quarter on customer mix.
Digital Platforms is the profit engine and slower than promised
An earlier secondary summary said growth would be at least 20% a year. FY26 was 8.5%.
Management attributed the single-digit growth to a phase of investment in Wisely.
Q1 FY27 improved to 12.2%.

Stickiness
Telco sales cycles are long, which management says is the reason for a slow ramp. Enterprise routing is easy to switch on price.
A thin routing spread and dependence on telco relationships limit pricing power. The strategic bet is that Wisely turns Tanla from an aggregator into a platform that telcos pay to protect subscribers. [Analyst View]

Tanla has the same revenue as Route Mobile and a 7-point higher EBITDA margin, at a similar earnings multiple. Route Mobile's June margin pressure came from a traffic pause at a large domestic customer and a security incident at its Colombia subsidiary. Sinch targets 7 to 9% organic growth and 12 to 14% margin for 2027. [Analyst View]

What the price assumes. Little growth in profit. At about 10 times earnings excluding cash and a 2.4% yield, the market is pricing the business as a low-margin utility. Upside depends on software mix lifting margin or on profit following revenue. [Analyst View]

ValuationFair to attractive
Overall viewNeutral, leaning positive
Opinion. A debt-free, cash-generative business at about 10 times earnings excluding cash, with revenue and gross profit growth now accelerating. The risks are a thin margin, a profit line that has not grown in four years, silence on earnings calls and management churn. I would watch the next gross margin and the receivables before treating it as cheap rather than a value trap. [Analyst View]
Bull case
Wisely wins more telcos and software mix lifts EBITDA margin toward 20%.
Revenue growth stays near 15 to 18% and profit follows.
Buybacks and dividends compound per-share returns.
Bear case
Gross margin slips as customer mix worsens and profit stays flat.
Receivables or the acquisition cause write-offs.
Management churn continues and transparency stays low.
Base case, 12 to 18 months
Revenue grows 12 to 17%. EBITDA margin stays 16 to 17%. Profit grows in the low teens. The multiple stays near 10 to 13 times. [Analyst View] This is a judgment, not a forecast. No consensus estimates exist.
Five things to remember
FY26 profit of ₹509 cr is below FY22's ₹539 cr.
Digital Platforms is 9% of revenue and about a third of gross profit.
Free cash flow was 94% of profit in FY26.
Earnings calls stopped after Q4 FY26 and senior staff left in April 2026.
The stock is about 12 times earnings with a 2.4% dividend yield.
Five questions before investing
Why were earnings calls suspended?
What is in the ₹527 cr of other receivables?
What is Wisely's revenue and when will a second telco sign?
Why did the stock fall 19% between early August and mid-September?
Why is the ValueFirst Middle East purchase worth its price given negative net worth?
